SpotGone! is a natural product that is applied to your yard on the spots where deicers or salt has killed the grass. SpotGone’s natural chemical properties eliminate excess salt from the soil allowing your grass to grow in green and lush. Continued use in conjunction with HydroSave can keep the spots from forming.

Many lawn “Patches” have grass seed included in them. This foreign seed makes a different kind of spot on your lawn. Since it is highly unlikely that these foreign seeds will match your grass you could be left with many different shades of green in your yard.

Salt Damaged Grass
This picture taken from a 9th floor hospital window at the end of May 2009 in Omaha, NE. Notice along the sidewalk where new sod was laid and is yellow and dead. An application of SpotGone! would flush the salts allowing grass to regrow.

Sod is expensive and will not grow if salt levels are too high. Competitive products have mulch and seed to quickly grow new grass on the spot, but do not eleminate the salt in the soil. SpotGone! naturally adjust the soil to allow grass to re-grow, no expensive new seed needed!

SpotGone! can be safely used at high rates on turf grass, so over application has rarely been a problem. Usually 1-2 shakes per spot or square foot is enough SpotGone! to eliminate salt damaged spots. A little goes a long way!

Since SpotGone! is a completely natural product you don’t have to worry about kids or pets. There is no warning label or precautions need on our bag. SpotGone! is made with ingredients found in many processed foods!

What are de-icers?
De-icing salts work because the lower the freezing point of water. This causes the ice to melt at temperatures below the freezing mark

Generally there are 2 types, Calcium Chloride (CaCl2) and Sodium Chloride (NaCl). . Of the two, Sodium Chloride is generally more cost effective and lasts longer than Calcium Chloride, however, when it dries it leaves a white residue on the surfaces that can be blown onto the  surrounding environment causing more harm to plants.

Using deicers certainly makes winter driving  and walking much safer but at what cost to your plants?

When the salt levels are elevated the characteristics of the turf will be a discoloration and thinning of the turf in an inconsistent pattern. When the salt levels are high it will affect the osmotic pressure in the plants “tricking” them in to thinking there is a moisture deficiency. Causing wilting and even plant death.

High levels of salt also cause the root system to be very small. This will cause the turf to wilt even when there are sufficient levels of water in the soil. The turf will have tip burn and in some cases stop growing. As the levels of salts increase and the soils begin to dry out the turf will begin to die.

Salt damaged lawn, when you use deicers on your driveway and scoop the snow into one area salt can build up and cause patchy dead spots.
In most cases it is too late for the homeowner to correct the damage caused by the salts. This is because the salts reach the plant when they are dormant. By the time they begin to grow in the spring the plant will have been injured past the point of survival. While the death of the plant is gradual, some grass will not die until summer when there is maximum moisture stress.

Preventing Salt Damage
The easiest option is to no longer de-ice the surfaces. However, most people would much rather have good winter driving and maximum safetey than worry about their turf dying. Another option is to use a Gypsum based product, like SpotGone! that binds excess salts from deicers and with normal watering flushes these salts from the soil allowing your grass to re-grow.

It is recommended to treat the areas before the salt is applied in the fall to condition the soil and again as needed in the spring and summer months to allow the turf to re-grow. Give SpotGone! a try this spring to clean up your edges!

SpotGone! treats approximately 200 spots or 200 square feet.

No added fertilizers, hormones, or steroids. Grass grows back naturally and healthy.

SpotGone! can also be used to help grass grow in high traffic areas, or used along sidewalks that have damage from de-icers.
